Purpose Statement - Strengthening Disaster Recovery for the Nation
At the President's request, the Secretaries of Homeland Security and Housing and Urban Development are co-chairing a Long-Term Disaster Recovery Working Group composed of the Secretaries and Administrators of more than 20 departments, agencies and offices. This high-level, strategic initiative will provide operational guidance for recovery organizations as well as make suggestions for future improvement. An intensive stakeholder outreach effort during October and November, 2009, involving State, local, and tribal government representatives, as well as a wide array of private organizations and private non-profit organizations, will inform these efforts.
Read and review the draft of the National Disaster Recovery Framework
The draft of the National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF) is available for review here and is posted to the Federal Register. The comment period began on February 10, 2009 and will run through Feb. 26, 2010. This comment period continues the extensive stakeholder outreach efforts undertaken by the interagency Long Term Disaster Recovery Working Group, established in October 2009 by President Obama and co-chaired by Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan.
The NDRF document is available at www.regulations.gov in Docket FEMA-2010-0004. Individuals and other stakeholders who wish to submit official comments can do so on that Web site, using the docket identification number as a search term.
Summary of input from Stakeholders
We've created this Web site to allow a large and broad group of stakeholders to easily provide their input on the areas the Long-Term Recovery Working Group will be considering. We knew there were many groups and individuals with information, ideas and comments that wanted to participate in this process. Input provided on this Web site, coupled with that gathered from other outreach efforts (VTCs, Stakeholder Forums, research on past efforts/reports, calls and direct e-mails), became the raw material the Working Group is reviewing to develop both the Report to the President and the draft of the National Disaster Recovery Framework. The site also serves as a centralized source of news and information on the Long-Term Recovery Working Group's efforts.
